GREELEY, Colo. - Northern Colorado Wrestling takes a full lineup to Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend for the 34th Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
The Bears will bring 2014 Cliff Keen placers Trey Andrews (125 - 4th place) and Trent Noon (197 - 6th place) back this year, along with UNC returners Sonny Espinoza (141), Ben Polkowske (149), Joe Grable (165), Horacio Vialpando (174) and Dylan Gabel (184). Along with the returners, true freshman Rico Montoya (133) and transfers Eleazar De Luca (157) and Jack Kuck (HWT) are also making the trip out in their first Cliff Keen appearances.
Last year's outing left Andrews with a 5-2 record to take fourth place, with three of his wins coming via pin. Noon had two pins in his tournament record of 4-3, landing him a sixth place finish.
Forty teams are participating in the Friday-Saturday event, including 10 ranked in the top-25 by Intermat. Among the ranked teams are No. 5 Virginia Tech, No. 6 Cornell, No. 7 Michigan, and No. 10 Missouri.
Of the 10 Big 12 schools Northern Colorado will face in March at the Big 12 Championships, Iowa State, North Dakota State, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Utah Valley will all be in attendance.
Registration and the seeding meeting will be held Thursday, with the first matches slated for Friday at 9 a.m. Quarterfinals are set for 6 p.m. Friday, with the semifinals Saturday at 10 a.m. and the Championship and consolation finals to begin Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Invitational will be held at the Cashman Center, located on North Las Vegas Blvd., adjacent to Cashman Field (New York Mets' Triple-A team: Las Vegas 51s).Â
Tickets, available at the door, are $40 for an all-session pass, $20 for just the championship finals and $15 for each of the three preliminary sessions.
