Women's Tennis runs into hot Buffs club in Boulder

BOULDER -- The Northern Colorado women's tennis team battled against nonconference rival Colorado on Saturday but fell 5-2 at Millennium Hotel Harvest House.
The Bears, playing in the first of three duals away from Greeley, took a big blow early from the Buffaloes and lost all three doubles matches to start off the day. The closest match came at the No. 3 position, where Northern Colorado's Jennifer Buchanan and Chrissie Hoolahan fell 8-6 to CU's Ania Anuszkiewicz and Ashley Tiefel 8-6.
The Buffs' No. 1 duo of Kristina Schleich and Julyette Steur defeated Lizzie Tapia and Stephanie Catlin 8-1, and Colorado's Winde Janssens and Manzie Tenorio, ranked No. 55 in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (IT), edged Northern Colorado's Adriana Nieto and Jennifer Whateley at No. 2 doubles with an 8-5 score.
Northern Colorado's two points on the day came at the final two singles positions.
Bears sophomore Stephanie Catlin (No. 5) took down Anuszkiewicz 6-3 in the first set before falling 4-6 in a hard-fought second set. She claimed the point with a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker.
Freshman Chrissie Hoolahan then won by default against Tiefel at No. 6 singles.
Northern Colorado will drop back into Big Sky Conference play next weekend, when it travels to Pocatello, Idaho, and Ogden, Utah, to take on Idaho State and Weber State on Saturday and Sunday.
The Bears will then return home on Thursday, March 15, for a 10 a.m. dual against South Dakota State.
