LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Northern Colorado senior libero Amanda Arterburn was honored Tuesday with a selection to this year's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Pacific Region team.
Arterburn, the 2010 and 2011 Big Sky Conference Libero of the Year, is an Honorable Mention pick in Tuesday's announcement but one of only two liberos honored in the Pacific Region. The other is Natalie Hagglund of Southern Cal -- the top ranked team in the country prior to this year's NCAA Tournament.
This is the first AVCA all-region selection for a Northern Colorado player at the NCAA Division I level and the first for the Bears overall in nine seasons, since Erin Deffenbaugh, Teale Goble and Linnea Kiilsgaard were honored in 2002.
Arterburn is the first Big Sky player honored by the AVCA since 2007 and just the eighth since 1997.
"What Amanda [gave] to our team cannot be measured with a statistic," Northern Colorado coach Lyndsey Benson said. "Our team [rallied] around her competitiveness and knowledge of the game. She [made] everyone around her better."
She finished her career with 1,735 digs, getting 19 in last week's 3-0 loss by the Bears to third-ranked Hawai'i in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. That's the fourth-highest total in Northern Colorado history and the second most of any Northern Colorado NCAA Division I player (Abby Mayne, 1782).
She notched 40 digs in a 3-2 victory at Portland State this season, which was a Northern Colorado Division I record and the third-most in the Big Sky since 2006, and ended her time with the Bears with 30 consecutive matches with 10 or more digs.
Arterburn's 5.21 digs-per-set mark in 2011, prior to the NCAA Tournament, was the 35th best mark in the NCAA.
The AVCA Pacific Region is comprised of teams from Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, Washington and Utah.
