Cox Bio
On Saturday, May 8, 2010, Whitley Cox received her B.A. from the University of Northern Colorado. She's the first in her family to graduate college. On the following Monday morning, she was in the Harlem Ambassadors office accompanied by her mother, signing her first professional contract with the Harlem Ambassadors.
A stellar four-year starter for the Bears, Cox finished her career in Greeley as the third all-time leading scorer in UNC history with 1,581 points. She is only the second player in Bears history with over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 250 assists. And she concluded her senior year by being named by Big Sky Conference coaches as a First Team All-Conference selection.
“Whitley Cox has the type of game that we seek in our women players including speed, a flashy game, toughness, an all-around skill set, and an 'I won't back down' attitude,” said Harlem Ambassadors President Dale Moss. The Harlem Ambassadors, based in Fort Collins, tour the world with a show basketball presentation that uniquely features female performers with primarily a male roster.
“I'm very excited and honored to be part of the Harlem Ambassadors family,” said Whitley Cox. “I will be able not only to play basketball, but also to educate our youth to stay in school, receive an education, and avoid drugs.” She added, “I can pay it forward.”
The Harlem Ambassadors have played in all 50 states and 19 countries and encourage youth to make good choices concerning pursuing an education and staying away from drugs. The team annually performs more than 220 events as fundraising events for community social service organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Boys and Girls Clubs, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and many more. The Ambassadors are also the largest provider of entertainment to the United States military worldwide and have performed at over 130 different bases in all service branches.
Cox has joined the team touring California for some initial training. She will also work in the Ambassadors office in Fort Collins as an intern this summer before beginning full-time touring starting in September 2010.
