GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado swimming and diving student-athlete Maria Erokhina has been named the February Student-Athlete of the Month, presented by Sexy Sammies, following a standout month highlighted by historic, record-breaking performances.
Erokhina delivered a memorable showing at the MPSF Championships, capturing conference titles in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke while earning two NCAA qualifying cuts — the first in program history. Her time of 59.96 in the 100 breaststroke set a new school record and made her the first Bear to break the one-minute barrier. She followed with a 2:10.84 in the 200 breaststroke to set a pool record and reset her own program mark.
In addition, Erokhina placed second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.00, which ranks third all-time in Northern Colorado history. She also played a key role in helping the Bears post their highest swimming point total at the championship meet.
As the season continues, Erokhina's consistency and momentum remain encouraging signs for Northern Colorado as the program builds toward championship competition.
