Chaz Butler

Chaz Butler was hired at Northern Colorado by head coach Amanda Schick' in June of 2017. As an assistant coach, Butler focus is dedicated to the Bear sprinter and hurdlers, as well as the relay teams.
“It’s going to be great having him on staff," Schick said. "His young and driven. His personal experience with the sport and the success he’s had will allow him to transition quickly to coaching. Chaz is passionate about the sport of Track and Field and I look for him to make an immediate impact on the team and with recruiting.”
In his first season in Greeley, Butler helped coach 19, top-10 times in program history, including three all-time records.
Alex Wesley posted the fastest 400m in UNC history with a 45.19-second time in the 2018 NCAA Championships and earned Second Team All-America honors after placing 14th in the event.
Kyle Thomas recorded the fastest indoor 400m time in program history, clocking in at 47.13 seconds.
UNC also recorded the fastest time in the 4x100m relay with a 40.19-second mark. The relay team included Thomas, Wesley, Demetrius Graves and Alex Mead.
Outside of the track, Butler assisted in the team's academic success with 27 Big Sky Conference All-Academic honors.
Butler joins the UNC staff after a highly successful career as a student athlete at Adams State University.
During his career at Adams State, Butler was a 2016 Outdoor Track & Field Division II First Team All-American in the 4x100m. Butler also earned 2016 Second Team All-American honor in the 100m.
In 2015, Butler helped Adams State to a DII Indoor National Championship. Butler earned Second Team All-American status in the 60m and 200m.
Butler was named the 2014 RMAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, after winning both the 100m and 200m championship. During the Indoor season, Butler was a DII First Team All-American in the 60m. He won the RMAC championship in the 60m in the 200m that same season.
As a freshman in 2013, Butler won RMAC championships in the 60m and 200m in the indoor season, while also winning the 100m and 200m during the outdoor season.
Butler graduated from Adams State University in December of 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management and a minor in Business Marketing.
During his final semester at Adams State, Butler worked as an intern for the Athletics Department, assisting with spending and budgeting plans for 24 athletic programs. He also worked to develop and marketing strategy to reach local sponsors.
