- At the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite Welch recorded his season, career, and all-time record book low of 63 finishing in 10th place overall.
- He placed in the top 25 at 5 tournaments this season and was also awarded Second-Team All Big Sky.
- In the Big Sky Championships he finished in 7th place with lows of 71,72, and 73 averaging a total of 216.
- Welch also placed in the top 20 for the Colin Montgomerie-HBUÂ Huskies Intercollegiate Tournament. with a total score of 218.Â
2016-17Â
- Played in all 10 tournaments throughout the year as a Freshman.
- He had eight Top 50 finishes throughout the season.
- He had four Top 20 finishes.
- He recorded a season low 66 at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite in September in which he won the tournament.
- At the Big Sky Championships he finished 2nd place recording a 216 stroke total in three rounds for the weekend. Coby was named to the Big Sky All-Conference First Team.
- Most notably Coby was named the Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year.
High School
- Welch, a Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado graduate brings a history of success with him to UNC.
- A four-year letter winner in both golf and wrestling, Welch helped the Eagles win three-straight State golf team championships from 2013-16. He placed twice in the State tournament and earned himself a runner-up title this year.
- Welch's career low-round came at Deer Creek Golf Club in Littleton, Colorado where he shot a 62. During his senior campaign he carried a 66 stroke average.
- Was ranked Top 200 nationally and was one of three Junior Players of the Year named by the Colorado Golf Association.
- Welch was also named to the Colorado Junior Golf All-Star Team, as well as the CJGA Academic All-Star team for his hard work in the classroom.
Coby is the son of Tim and Terri Welch and has three siblings. He plans to pursue a business major here at UNC.
