Ken DeWeese came to UNC from UTEP where he spent the last six seasons, five of them as an assistant.
Highlights of the 2018-19 season included
- School Record for Big Sky Wins, 15.
- UNC won four of the Big Sky's major postseason awards; Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
- The Bears became the first non-conference team to ever win at Wyoming's Arena Auditorium in consecutive seasons.
- Jordan Davis played with the Denver Nuggets during the Summer League and went on to sign with Baxi Manresa in Spain.
DeWeese was on the bench for the 2017-18 season when UNC won the first postseason basketball tournament in conference history. The Bears beat University of Illinois at Chicago to claim the College Insider Tournament title.
The 2017-18 season also included:
- School record for wins: 26
- First time UNC finished inside the top RPI 100.
- First time UNC won on the road at Wyoming for the first time in 80 years.
- Jordan Davis posted the first triple-double in school history with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists against Drake.
- Andre Spight played on the Denver Nuggets summer team before going on to sign with KK Mornar of the Adriatic League.

Prior to coming to UNC, DeWeese helped guide the Miners to over 120 wins, including three seasons of 22 wins over more and two NIT appearances.
Known for his recruiting at UTEP, DeWeese signed 26 players that have been Conference USA commissioner’s Honor Roll selections.
In his first year as an assistant at El Paso, he recruited four-student athletes that went on to earn All-Conference USA honors, including C-USA Defensive Player of the Year.
He recruited a consensus national Top 100 recruit, Vincent Hunter. Hunter went on to be C-USA Freshman on the Year in 2013-14 and First Team All-Conference in 2014-15.
In back-to-back years, DeWeese was ranked as the no. 1 assistant in C-USA by NextUpRecruits.com and the no. 2 ranked assistant in 2013-14 and ’14-’15.
His 2013 recruiting class was ranked in the Top 25 by numerous media outlets.
In six seasons, DeWeese left UTEP helping the Miners defeat nationally ranked opponents Oregon, Nebraska, Michigan, Texas Tech, New Mexico State, Auburn, Memphis, Tennessee, Xavier and Washington State.
Prior to El Paso, DeWeese spent a season at Utah Valley and four seasons at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
With the Wolverines at Utah Valley he was in charge of recruiting the 2010 class, which led to back-to-back winning seasons for UVU, going 19-11 and 20-12 after finishing 12-18 in 2009-10.
As an assistant at Hardin-Baylor (2005-09), the team finished with a 85-27 (.758) in DeWeese’s four seasons and clinched two NCAA (Division III) tournament berths.
DeWeese was solely responsible for the recruitment of four student-athletes that helped UMHB reach the 2013 D3 National Championship game.
The many other accolades that DeWeese helped Hardin-Baylor receive were, a no. 12 National Ranking in the Top 25 poll, leading all of Division III in field goal percentage, four American Southwest Conference tournament appearances and two division titles.
DeWeese got his start at Idaho in 2005 as the Director of Basketball Operations.
He has worked for three highly successful head coaches, all of which are regarded for their X’s and O’s in his father, coach DeWeese, coach Hunsaker and coach Floyd.

Ken is joined at UNC by his wife, Natalie and their two daughters, Emery and Ellison. They are also expecting a third child this summer.
