Cory Fehringer joined the men's basketball staff during the summer of 2020 and was promoted to Associate Head Coach and Director of Performance in May of 2022.
Fehringer works primarily with the program’s guards and wings and joined the staff in 2020. He is also an integral part of putting together the team’s recruiting classes.
He helped Daylen Kountz earn unanimous first-team All-Big Sky honors in 2021-22 along with Matt Johnson II making the third team in 2020-21 and 21-22. He also was key in the development of Bodie Hume who earned third-team all-conference honors in 2021-22.
Kountz averaged the 10th most points in the NCAA in 2021-22 at 21.2 points per game to help him earn All-District selections by the USBWA and NABC.
Northern Colorado has been the best three-point shooting team in the Big Sky the past two seasons with Fehringer on staff, averaging 9.0 per contest in 2020-21 and 10.2 in 2021-22. Dru Kuxhausen led the Big Sky and ranked in the top 10 nationally with 112 made threes in 2021-22.
Fehringer helped the Bears advance to the Big Sky championship game in 2022 and the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational.
A Sterling, Colorado native, he brings eight years of head coaching experience with him to Greeley including the past four years at Western Nebraska Community College.
He has coached four NJCAA All-America selections and two scoring champions in Teyvon Meyers and Teddy Allen. Meyers went on to play for West Virginia and help them to a Sweet 16 appearance in 2017 while Allen played at Nebraska. Other notable alums under Fehringer's guidance include Jervay Green (Nebraska), Vinnie Shahid (North Dakota State), Adonis De La Rosa (Illinois) and Phil Carr (Morgan State). Shahid is a two-time Summit League Tournament MVP for NDSU and Carr finished his career as Morgan State's all-time leading rebounder.
Another notable alum of Fehringer's is former UNC guard and sharpshooter Trent Harris.
Prior to coaching at Western Nebraska, Fehringer was the head coach at Dakota State College from 2012-14 and Williston State from 2014-16 prior to taking over WNCC for the past four years. He has been named the Conference Coach of the Year four times over his career. CoachStat.net recognized Fehringer as a top 10 coach in the NJCAA.
The Sterling, Colorado native attended Northeastern Junior College before spending one year at Colorado State and finishing his college basketball playing days at Hastings College.
