Brett Cloepfil enters his seventh season on staff at the University of Northern Colorado, and third year as an Assistant Coach and Director of Performance.
In his first two years as an Assistant Coach, the Bears compiled a cumulative record of 44-24, including accomplishing a Big Sky regular season championship and a second-place finish in 2023-2024. Cloepfil’s responsibilities included overseeing the wing position development, working as a sports performance team liaison, and preparing for special situations.
Previously, Cloepfil served as the Director of Operations in 2022-2023 and director of Player Development from 2020-2022. He was also a volunteer assistant at UNC from 2019-2020. In those four seasons at UNC, the Bears complied an overall combined record of 67-56.
Prior to UNC, Cloepfil led Greeley West High School from 2014-19, coaching the Spartans to the 5A state tournament all five seasons. He holds the 5A school record for wins in a season and overall 5A winning percentage throughout his tenure.
Cloepfil began his career as an AAU coach for the Colorado Chaos Basketball Club from 2011-16. He coached and helped develop over 20 Division I players and over 40 players went on to play college basketball at various levels.
Cloepfil, an Evans, Colorado native, graduated from Colorado State University-Pueblo in 2008 with bachelor’s degrees in physical education and mass communications.
At CSUP, he played basketball earning All-RMAC West team honors in 2006-07 when he led the conference in free throw percentage with a mark of 90.5 percent. He set the school record for consecutive made free throws with 41. He was exceptional from behind the arc as well, shooting 41 percent for his career. Cloepfil also earned the Harry H. Simmons Scholarship award for outstanding achievement both on and off the floor.
