Nick Nissen was named tight ends coach at Northern Colorado in December of 2022, before his promotion to offensive line coach in 2024 and added run game coordinator in the spring of 2025.

Nissen comes to UNC after spending the 2022 and 2021 seasons at Bemidji State as the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.

The 2022 and 2021 teams won back-to-back NSIC championships and qualified for the playoffs, both program firsts. The 2021 Beaver squad finished 10-3 overall, securing the first 10-win season and NCAA Postseason Tournament victory in program history, thanks in part to one of the top offensive lines in the nation. Nationally, the Beavers ranked fifth in sacks allowed (9) and 11th in tackles for loss allowed (44), while the line blocked for the fifth-highest passing offense (335.3 ypg) and the ninth-highest total offense (466.7 ypg). Leading the way for the offensive line were All-American Ty Cobb and all-region selection Conor Kovas. The O-line kept Harlon Hill Trophy finalist Brandon Alt upright en route to setting multiple BSU single-season passing records. The unit also helped BSU’s rushing attack average 146.4 yards per game.
Nissen coached two All-Americans, four All-Region, and seven All-NSIC performers.Â
Prior to joining Bemidji State, Nissen was an assistant coach with Minot State since 2016. In addition to coaching the offensive line, he also served as recruiting coordinator and life skills & community service coordinator. Nissen coached two NSIC All-Conference and 11 NSIC All-Academic Team members from the offensive line. During the 2019 season, MiSU ranked sixth in the NSIC with 1,750 rushing yards, a 486-yard increase from 2018. Minot State's offensive line allowed just 13 sacks in 2019, which ranked second in the NSIC and was 19 fewer than in 2018. Nissen recruited and signed the 2019 NSIC Offensive Newcomer of the Year and All-NSIC honoree Ali Mohamed. Nissen also oversaw 1,200 hours of community service by the football team in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Nissen recruited and coached Sabastian Gutierrez who has played for the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, and Las Vegas Raiders. Also coached Troy Kowel who is with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.
Nissen began his coaching career in 2015 as a graduate assistant coach with a focus on the offensive line at Southern Utah University. He helped SUU to a 2015 Big Sky Conference Championship and the program's second-ever appearance in the FCS Playoffs. In Nissen's lone season, the Thunderbirds averaged 445.0 yards per game, including 1,990 rushing yards and 3,350 passing yards.
Nissen was a five-year student-athlete at Southern Utah with experience on both offensive and defensive lines. He was a two-time Big Sky All-Conference performer as an interior offensive lineman and was voted to be a team captain and SUU's Most Valuable Offensive Lineman.
Nissen completed his undergraduate degree at SUU with a bachelor's degree in physical education/exercise science in 2014 and attained a master's degree in sports management from Minot State University in 2021.
