Jimmy Spencer joined the Northern Colorado football staff in the spring of 2021 as the Volunteer Assistant Football Coach working with the secondary.Â
In his first season at Northern Colorado, Spencer coached Jerone Jackson to a third team All-Big Sky selection. The senior finished the year as the team's second leading tackler on the way to the honor. His unit intercepted seven passes and broke up another 31 on the year.Â
Spencer had a 12-year career in the NFL as a cornerback for the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, Cincinnati Bengals and San Diego Chargers. He played in 177 regular season games starting 81 of them. Spencer finished his career with 26 interceptions including two returned for a touchdown. He also recovered eight fumbles, taking one back for a score.Â
Prior to the Washington Football Team drafting him in 1991, Spencer played for Steve Spurrier at Florida from 1988-90.Â
