Charles Gordon joined the Northern Colorado football coaching staff in January, 2013 and is in charge of the secondary.
Gordon knows Coach Collins and his system well, playing for Collins at Kansas on both the secondary and as a kick returner.
He joins the Bears from the high school ranks, where he coached at his alma mater, Santa Monica High School, from 2009-12.
Prior to Santa Monica, Gordon played in the NFL for the Minnesota Vikings, but suffered an ankle injury on a punt return that ended his career. He was signed as a practice squad player originally in 2006, but was added to the active roster in November.
During his playing days at Kansas, Gordon was a Thorpe Award semifinalist in 2005 as a junior. He entered the draft at the conclusion of that third season, but went undrafted. Gordon was a two-time First Team All-Big 12 selection in both 2004 and 2005 and earned Third Team All-American AP honors in 2004. He was also a First Team Freshman All-American after the conclusion of the 2003 season after catching 57 passes for 769 yards.
As a sophomore, Gordon played primarily on defense as a corner, but returned to the offense for his junior season, playing both sides of the ball. Throughout his time with the Jayhawks, he returned both kicks and punts.
Gordon has two daughters, Cali and Anayah.
