Blair Peterson was named offensive coordinator and quarterback’s coach at Northern Colorado in December of 2022.
Peterson joined the Bears from Southern Utah and where he served as offensive coordinator in 2022.
In Peterson’s lone season at Southern Utah, the offense improved 63 spots in the national rankings (No.39) for scoring offense while averaging 30.09 points per game. He also had three all-conference selections in Justin Miller, Isaiah Wooden, and Lyle Santos. Peterson coached Quarterback Justin Miller to career highs in completions (240), yards (2,821), and touchdowns (20). Miller finished No.16 in the country for completion percentage (65.3%) and No.19 in the country for passing yards. Under Peterson’s direction, WR Isaiah Wooden ranked No.7 in the country in yards per reception with 20.47 yards per catch and No.26 in all-purpose yards (122.27 per game).
Prior to Southern Utah, Peterson coached at BYU for three seasons where he tutored former first-round draft pick, Zach Wilson. As a sophomore in 2019, Wilson started nine games, completing 199 of 319 passes for 2,382 yards, 11 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. That season, the Cougars were invited to the 2019 Hawaii Bowl, where Wilson was named BYU's MVP in the Cougars' 38–34 loss to Hawaii.
Wilson’s standout season was in 2020 when he started 12 games and completed 247 of 336 passes for 3,692 yards, 33 touchdowns, and three interceptions while rushing for 255 yards and 10 touchdowns, breaking Steve Young's school completion percentage in a season at 73.5 percent. He helped lead BYU to a 10–1 regular season mark. He was named the offensive MVP of the 2020 Boca Raton Bowl after completing 26 of 34 passes for 425 yards and three touchdowns in the 49–23 victory over UCF.
In 2021, Peterson worked with Jaren Hall who started 10 games completing 189 of 296 passes for 2,583 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Hall was selected in the 2023 NFL draft in the fifth round by the Minnesota Vikings.
Before arriving at BYU, Peterson was an offensive quality control coach between 2017-18 at Rice University and tight ends coach at Florida International in 2016.
Peterson coached and developed TE Jonnu Smith at FIU in 2016 to be a third-round draft pick of the Tennessee Titans. Peterson worked in private business from 2013-16.
He spent 2010-12 at Texas as an offensive quality control coach and interim running back coach in the 2012 Alamo Bowl,
He is the son of John Peterson, a former college head coach, who has also worked as a general manager and director of player personnel in the World League, CFL, XFL, and USFL, and was a scout in the NFL for 19 years – 10 with the Seattle Seahawks and nine with the Carolina Panthers.
Peterson is married to Camille and has three children: Brooklyn, Jaxon, and Madison.
