GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado senior Mia Norman has been named Big Sky Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Norman anchored a Bears back line that posted back-to-back shutouts to open conference play, holding Idaho and Eastern Washington scoreless across 180 minutes as Northern Colorado earned four points from its first Big Sky weekend.
Against Idaho on Oct. 8, Norman played the full 90 minutes as the Bears held the Vandals to five shots and three on target in a 0-0 draw. Northern Colorado limited Idaho to one shot in the first half while building a 6-1 advantage in shots.
Against Eastern Washington on Oct. 11, Norman played 75 minutes and helped the Bears concede just five shots, two on target, in a 1-0 Senior Day win. Northern Colorado held a 56 percent possession advantage and gave up only five corner kicks.
She contributed on the attacking end as well, recording three shots against the Eagles with two on goal, as the Bears outshot Eastern Washington 17-5.
The honor is the first of Norman's career and the third for Northern Colorado this season. Maddie Mori and Ava Marshall have each earned Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week recognition this fall.
