Lamb Turns Page as Bears Ready for Road Test at South Dakota

GREELEY, Colo. – After a heartbreaking finish in last week's rivalry game, Northern Colorado football is shifting its full attention to a difficult road test at South Dakota.
Head coach Ed Lamb met with the media Wednesday to address lingering questions about the Colorado State game while also previewing the challenge of facing the Coyotes inside the DakotaDome.
On moving forward after CSU…
"As you can imagine, I've largely moved on, as has our team. It was a rough result to feel like we had earned a victory and then have that taken away. That was difficult, but the most important thing right now is that we move on. If we think all we have to do is play like we did at CSU, then we've already lost this week. South Dakota is a very good football team, well-coached, with an identity, and they don't lose at home."
On the progress of the program…
"The building of this program has been done through high school recruiting, in the weight room, on the practice field. We've doubled down on development and local recruiting. It feels good that maybe people on the outside can see a light at the end of the tunnel, but we lost the game. Only the hungry get fed, and South Dakota will have no problem teaching us a lesson if we're not ready."
On the weekly process of turning the page…
"Sunday and Monday are our flush days. We lift, run, review film, and then shift to the next opponent. In wins, we recognize players of the game publicly. In losses, that recognition stays more private, but we still highlight what was done well and where we can improve. By Tuesday, it's about assessing focus and energy at practice and building toward Saturday."
On South Dakota's defense…
"They run their system with conviction. All 11 guys are tackling, all 22 eyes on the ball. They get off blocks, run full speed to the football, and they want to be the first guy in on every tackle. That's something I admire, as a defensive-minded coach."
On South Dakota's offense…
"People may look at scores and say they're still searching for an identity, but I think they know exactly who they are. Against Iowa State, they made it really tough to run the football, and against Lamar they had multiple chances to win. They're physical up front and disciplined in what they do."
On the challenge of playing in the DakotaDome…
"The dome environments are some of the loudest in college football. South Dakota is always loud, and they've created a tough atmosphere. When the noise echoes, it's as difficult as anywhere I've coached."
Northern Colorado and South Dakota kick off Saturday at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D. Game time is set for 12 p.m. MT.
