Bears fall to Colgate in Three Sets

GREELEY, Colo. — The University of Northern Colorado Volleyball team suffered its first loss of the 2025 season on Saturday night, dropping a straight-set decision to Colgate University at the Bank of Colorado Arena. After an emotionally charged season-opening victory, the Bears were unable to replicate their performance, falling 0–3 to a composed and disciplined Raiders squad. With the loss, UNC's early-season record moves to 1–1.
Despite several standout individual efforts, the Bears struggled to maintain offensive and defensive momentum throughout the match. Colgate effectively dictated the pace and capitalized on key opportunities, outworking UNC in critical moments. The Bears appeared out of rhythm, unable to recover against a cohesive and strategically sound opponent.
Head Coach Lyndsey Oates emphasized the importance of learning from the experience, noting the team's potential for growth early in the season.
"We're going to be fine as long as we fail forward," Oates stated post-match. "That's a big message—we must learn from it. We got outworked tonight, so hopefully that is the early-season reminder. It needs to hit us hard that we must be better because of it."
UNC will aim to bounce back quickly as they prepare for a highly anticipated in-state rivalry matchup against Colorado State University. The Bears return to the court on Tuesday, September 2, at the Bank of Colorado Arena. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. MT.
