Bears junior recognized for community service and leadership off the field
WACO, Texas – Northern Colorado offensive lineman Levi Johnson has been named a nominee for the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, announced Tuesday by Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). Johnson is one of a record-breaking 197 college football student-athletes across all divisions recognized for their impact through community service and leadership beyond the game.
A junior from Colorado Springs, Colorado, Johnson has been a quiet force for good in the Northern Colorado community throughout his college career. From mentoring young athletes to supporting health-focused causes, Johnson's efforts have spanned a wide range of initiatives:
Special Olympics Weightlifting Event: Volunteered to load weights, support athletes, and cheer on participants at a regional Special Olympics competition.
Cancer Research Fundraiser: Helped set up and demonstrate obstacles at the Northern Colorado Ninja Warriors Event to raise funds for cancer research.
Local Food Bank Volunteer: Packed and sorted boxes of food and essentials for local families in need.
Youth Football Coach: Volunteers as a day coach for a youth football program, teaching fundamentals and mentoring future players.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® honors student-athletes who go beyond the field to make a difference in their communities. Nominees this year have addressed pressing social issues such as mental wellness, homelessness, youth mentorship, and health care access. Johnson joins a distinguished group of student-athletes recognized for their positive influence and selfless leadership.
This year's final team will be announced in September and will feature 11 players from the NCAA FBS, 11 from the FCS, Division II, III and NAIA levels, and one honorary coach. A voting panel made up of former Good Works Team members, journalists and coaches will select the final 23-member team.
Allstate and the Wuerffel Foundation have partnered to elevate the award's impact by aligning it with the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy—honoring service, academics and athletic performance.
"When nearly 200 young athletes choose to serve, it creates a ripple effect far beyond the game," said Danny Wuerffel, Heisman Trophy winner and College Football Hall of Famer. "Their leadership in the community is just as worthy of recognition as their performance on the field."
