GREELEY, Colo. - The university of Northern Colorado is proud to announce the signing of Monique Stewart, one of the Caribbean's most sought-after middle-distance runners to its track and field and cross country teams.
Hailing from Edwin Allen High School in Jamaica, Stewart has been a dominant force in the region. With a personal best of 2:07.56 (800m) and 4:36 (1500m), she brings international pedigree, leadership, and explosive talent to the Bears sqaud.
A multi-medalist at Jamaica's prestigious Boys and Girls Championships. Stewart struck double gold in the Class 2 800m and 1500m in 2023, and followed up with a strong 2024 campaign that helped secure Edwin Allen's 10th team title. She also earned bronze at the 2024 Carifta Games in the under 20 800m, solidifying her status as a rising star in Caribbean athletics.
"Monique is a game-changer. She's proven herself on the big stage, and her combination with Regina Mpigachai gives us a much-needed one-two punch that will shake up the Big Sky conference. We're building something special, and Monique is a cornerstone." stated Director of Track and Field Wayne Angel.
