GREELEY, Colo. – Senior Isaac Rascon and sophomore Dylan Wilson have been named Luna's Taco Student-Athletes of the Week by the Northern Colorado Athletics Department after rewriting the program record books in the 3000m this past weekend.
Competing at the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Arizona, the distance duo delivered historic performances in the event, both shattering the previous school record of 8:40.02 set by Stephen Haas in 2018.
Rascon, a senior from Middletown, California, led the way with a second-place finish and a new program-best time of 8:34.71. Wilson, a sophomore from Rancho Santa Margarita, California, was right on his heels, finishing third with an impressive time of 8:36.74.
Their efforts not only secured top-three finishes in a highly competitive field but also marked a new era in Northern Colorado distance running.
"I'm so proud of both Isaac and Dylan," said Assistant Track & Field Coach Stormie Sickler. "They have been working extremely hard this season and we don't get the opportunity to race a 3K flat in outdoor season, so they took full advantage of the race Friday night to make their marks in the UNC history books. Breaking the record is a testament to their dedication."
