Four Bears Break Into UNC All-Time Top 10 at Jim Click Shootout

Cruzan, Hafner, Wilson, and Plant highlight standout performances as Northern Colorado caps strong weekend in Tucson
TUCSON, Ariz. – Northern Colorado track and field wrapped up its weekend at the Jim Click Shootout with several standout performances and additions to the program's all-time top 10 list on Saturday.
Leading the way on the women's side was Shantell Hafner, who clocked a 4:34.24 in the 1500 meters to finish second overall and move into ninth all-time in UNC history. In the triple jump, Jaelynn Lane placed fourth with a mark of 11.27m (36'11.75").
The Bears had solid representation in the sprints, highlighted by Kiana Van Haaren in the 200 meters (24.95, 19th) and 100 meters (12.25, 17th). Marely Del Campo and Vanessa Ward also competed in both events, while Lane rounded out the 100-meter group with a time of 13.00.
Sherika Thomas clocked 14.73 to finish eighth in the 100 hurdles.
On the men's side, Zander Cruzan starred with a second-place finish in the 400 meters, posting a time of 45.97, good for third all-time in program history. Cruzan also ran 21.39 in the 200 meters to place 13th, just behind teammate Edgar Garcia, who took 12th in 21.32. Garcia was also strong in the 100 meters, running 10.62 to finish 10th.
UNC showed depth in the men's 1500 meters, with Dylan Wilson placing fourth in 3:54.41 — seventh-fastest in program history — followed by Isaac Rascon and Noah Osmond in seventh and eighth, respectively.
Nathan Plant added a sixth-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.55, landing him eighth on UNC's all-time list.
The Bears also took fourth in the men's 4x100-meter relay, with the team of Cruzan, Garcia, Johnny Fisher, Xavier Samuels Jr., and Moise Bennett stopping the clock in 41.44.
Bennett and Jaydon Sundbye competed in the 110 hurdles, with Bennett finishing 10th in 14.73. Fisher and Bennett also contributed in the 100 meters alongside Kaliff Guevara, who rounded out the sprint group.

"We had a successful weekend at the Jim Click Shootout. Both our men's and women's teams had strong showings, with several personal bests across sprints and distance events," said Assistant Track & Field Coach Stormie Sickler, "We also identified areas we can continue to build on throughout the rest of the outdoor season. We're incredibly proud of our athletes—they made the most of the opportunity to compete against tough teams and represented UNC with pride."
