FARMINGTON, Utah, -- Jaron Rillie earned his first Big Sky Conference weekly honor of the season, league officials announced Tuesday.
He is the third Bear to receive a weekly award this season.
Â
"We are really excited to find out that Jaron was named Big Sky Player of the Week and it is well deserved," head coach Steve Smiley said. "Jaron has had a great season, but he's taken his game to a different level over the last few weeks and his performances in both road games were special!"
Â
Rillie propelled Northern Colorado to its first Big Sky Conference regular season championship with his production in the road wins at Northern Arizona and Weber State.
Â
He totaled 44 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and one steal in the two contests.
Â
Against the Lumberjacks Saturday, he hit 8 of 12 from the floor, including 4 of 4 from 3-point range and finished with a team-high 20 points. He collected seven rebounds, with two assists and a steal.
Â
He netted a season-high 24 points, with eight rebounds and two assists in the title-clinching victory over Weber State Monday. From the field, Rillie hit seven of his 14 shot attempts, including 4 of 7 from beyond the arc. He sank 6 of 7 opportunities at the free-throw line, mostly in the waning minutes to seal the win.
Â
Rillie and the rest of the squad open the Big Sky Conference Tournament in the quarterfinals at the Idaho Central Arena in Boise, Idaho, Sunday, March 9, at 5:30 p.m. The Bears face the winner of Saturday's opening-round matchup between No. 9 seed Weber State and No. 10 seed Sacramento State.
