Bears battle but can't overcome Lumberjacks' hot shooting in Big Sky matchup
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado fought hard but couldn't overcome Northern Arizona's hot shooting, falling 80-70 at home on Saturday night at Bank of Colorado Arena. The Bears (13-15, 6-11 Big Sky) stayed within reach for much of the contest but couldn't slow down the Lumberjacks' offensive attack.
TOP PERFORMERS
Silvia Nativi led UNC with 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting, adding four rebounds and two steals. London Gamble chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds, while Gabi Fields provided a defensive spark with seven rebounds and a steal to go along with 12 points. Aniah Hall added nine points and six rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
NAU came out firing, jumping to a 19-15 lead after the first quarter behind strong three-point shooting. UNC kept pace early, with Gamble and Fields hitting key buckets.
The second quarter proved to be the turning point, as NAU went on a three-point barrage to outscore the Bears 29-12. Despite efforts from Nativi and Hall inside, UNC entered halftime trailing 48-27.
Northern Colorado responded after the break, using a 19-point third quarter to claw back within striking distance. The Bears' defense tightened, forcing turnovers and converting inside, but NAU maintained control with timely shooting.
UNC continued to battle in the fourth, outscoring NAU 24-14, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Despite a strong push in the final minutes, the Bears couldn't slow down the Lumberjacks' perimeter shooting.
KEY STATS
Rebounding Battle: Both teams grabbed 46 rebounds, with UNC pulling down 22 on the offensive glass.
Turnovers Costly: The Bears committed 14 turnovers, leading to 15 points for NAU.
Bench Production: UNC's reserves contributed 19 points in the effort.

Taylor Feldman paced the Lumberjacks with 21 points, knocking down four three-pointers and going 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Leia Beattie followed with 16 points, also hitting four triples, while Nyah Moran added 13 points and provided defensive support with two blocks. Sophie Glancey was a force in the paint, contributing 12 points and eight rebounds, along with two blocks of her own.
