Bears’ 800 Free Relay Win Gold, Shatter Program Record to Open WAC Championships

Northern Colorado Has 76 Points After Day One
HOUSTON, Texas – Northern Colorado swimming & diving opened the Western Athletic Conference Championships with a strong showing, sitting in fourth place after the first day of competition.
The highlight of the night came from the 800 free relay squad of Kyra Rabess, Lora Konter, Martina Yuki Trionfetti, and Lily Mayer, who dominated the field to take first place with a time of 7:14.85. Their performance not only secured gold but also shattered the previous UNC school record of 7:16.69 set in 2023.
Diving got the Bears started on the night, as senior Madison Berg put together a solid performance on the 3-meter, finishing 11th overall and third in the B final with a score of 263.55.
UNC closed the session with another impressive relay effort, as the 200 medley relay team of Reese Hazan, Maria Erokhina, Payten Irwin, and Trionfetti clocked a 1:42.00 to secure a fourth-place finish.
Thursday features simultaneous swimming and diving events, including the 1-meter dive, 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley (IM), 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay finals, 500 freestyle finals, 200 IM finals, and 50 freestyle finals.
