London Gamble Shot a Career High 27 Points on 12 of 15 shooting
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado women's basketball secured a crucial 85-72 victory over Sacramento State on Thursday afternoon at Bank of Colorado Arena. The win improves UNC to 4-9 in Big Sky play and 11-13 overall, while the Hornets fall to 4-8 in conference action.
TOP PERFORMERS
London Gamble had a career night, leading all scorers with 27 points on an efficient 12-of-15 shooting while also adding five assists and four steals. Gabi Fields made a significant impact with 12 points, going 10-of-11 from the free-throw line, while also contributing five assists and two steals. Aniah Hall recorded 10 points and seven rebounds, and Julia Riley added 10 points and four rebounds off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northern Colorado got off to a strong start, taking a 21-11 lead after the first quarter behind a balanced scoring attack and aggressive defense. The Bears forced five early turnovers, leading to transition baskets that set the tone for the game.
Sacramento State responded in the second quarter, outscoring UNC 15-13 to cut the deficit to 34-26 at halftime. The Hornets found success from beyond the arc, knocking down three triples in the period to stay within striking distance.
UNC came out firing in the third quarter, led by Gamble's hot shooting and Fields' playmaking. The Bears put up 26 points in the period, extending their lead to double digits. Three three-pointers from Gamble and a transition layup by Tatum West helped UNC build a 60-50 advantage heading into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, Northern Colorado sealed the win with clutch free-throw shooting and timely defensive stops. Fields continued to attack the basket, earning trips to the free-throw line and making eight of nine, while April Rummery-Lamb put the game away with a strong seven-point finish. UNC outscored Sacramento State 25-22 in the final frame to secure the victory.
