Bears Roll to Fourth Straight Win Behind Season-High 20 Threes

Bears hit 20 threes and move to 7-1, matching their best start since 2018-19
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado men's basketball returned to Greeley with a dominant 104-63 win over Regis on Saturday night inside Bank of Colorado Arena. The victory improved the Bears to 7-1, matching their best start since the 2018-19 season.
Northern Colorado controlled the afternoon from the opening tip and never trailed. The Bears opened on a 16-5 run in the first five minutes and stretched the margin to 25 points by the 5:18 mark. UNC continued to pour it on, shooting 62.9 percent in the first half and connecting on 11-of-18 from three to build a commanding 59-19 lead at the break.
Ariik Mawien powered the early surge with 15 first-half points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting. He finished with a career-high 17 points and a career-best seven made field goals. Quinn Denker added 10 first-half points and four assists on his way to a perfect 6-of-6 shooting line and 15 total points.
Northern Colorado maintained its rhythm out of the locker room. Freshman guard Tanner Braketa sparked a run with three threes that extended the lead to 89-39 with 8:37 remaining. Braketa finished the day with a career-high 14 points, a career-high five made field goals, and a career-best four made threes. Regis never cut the deficit below 41 the rest of the way.
Sophomore forward Walker Asp made his collegiate debut and contributed three points, two rebounds, two blocks, and an assist in 12 minutes. Will Humer anchored UNC on the glass and recorded a career-high 11 rebounds. Hunter Caldwell also set a new career high with three rebounds.
The Bears shot 56.3 percent from the field and 51.3 percent from three on 20 makes, their most this season and the second most in program history. UNC's bench produced 56 points and the team outscored Regis 32-12 in points off turnovers.
Regis was led by Dyland Forbord with 16 points and Matt Yost with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
UP NEXT: The Bears will play their first round of the Big Sky-Summit Challenge on December 3, taking on Omaha at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Nebraska at 6 p.m. MST.
