GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado men's basketball has added another talented in-state product to its 2026 recruiting class with the signing of Jeremiah Hammond, head coach Steve Smiley announced Wednesday.
Hammond, a 6'3 combo guard from Denver, Colorado, currently plays at Christopher Columbus High School, where he's established himself as a confident playmaker and scorer. Known for his competitiveness and clutch shooting, Hammond's high school career is highlighted by a game-winning three-pointer against Smoky Hill during his sophomore season.
"Getting the commitment of Jeremiah Hammond is so exciting for our program in so many ways. Jeremiah has been raised in a basketball family, and he has reaped the benefits of growing up as the youngest brother in a family that has seen his oldest brother, Julian, become a 4-year contributor and starter for really good CU Buffs teams, and middle brother Christian currently playing at Santa Clara University in the WCC," said Smiley, "Jeremiah is an extremely talented guard that can play multiple positions. Jeremiah is the type of guard that can use ball screens to create for himself or others, and at the end of the day, he has the knack to score at an extremely high level."
Jeremiah has been extremely successful at both Cherry Creek High School and on the Nike EYCL circuit with the Pluto Prospects, and he is now playing at the highest levels of high school basketball, playing on the reigning national championship school Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, Florida for his final season of high school. A great kid that comes from a great family, we can't wait to get Jeremiah up here to UNC and become a part of our Greeley community!"
A versatile guard with strong leadership instincts, Hammond brings energy on both ends of the floor and a passion for growth on and off the court.
"The coaching staff took a chance on me and believed in me," Hammond said. "They want to build on me not just as a player, but as a person as well."
Off the court, Hammond enjoys playing 8-ball pool, ping pong, and mini hoop battles with friends. He plans to major in Communications at Northern Colorado and is driven by his faith, stating his career goals are to reach the NBA and lead as many people to Christ as possible.
What Others Say About Jeremiah:
"Jeremiah Hammond is an outstanding player whose leadership sets him apart. He's a great teammate, respectful, coachable, and uplifting to everyone around him. He's 6'4" with long arms, a high basketball IQ, and the ability to score from all three levels, he's one of the most complete players we've had in our program since the inception of PLUTO. We're extremely proud of his growth and excited to see where this game will take him. " - Trey Harris, PLUTO Prospects Director
