Bears Earn Second Straight Dual Win, Defeat New Mexico State 165-135

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Northern Colorado swimming & diving picked up an impressive road win to open its 2025 dual meet slate, defeating conference foe New Mexico State 165-135 on Saturday at the NM State Aquatic Center.
The Bears set the tone early with a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The "A" team of Martina Yuki Trionfetti, Maria Erokhina, Ellyson Lombardi, and Alexis Mishler claimed first in 1:44.51, while the "B" relay, Ariane Bernier, Avi Tromp, Agathi Manoli, and Vitoria Simioni, finished second at 1:46.67.
Kyra Rabess continued her dominance in the distance events, winning the 1000 free by nearly nine seconds (10:26.17) and later adding another victory in the 500 free (5:06.58).
Northern Colorado carried the momentum through the opening stretch as Trionfetti (100 back, 56.32) and Erokhina (100 breast, 1:03.05) each took first. The Bears swept the podium in the 200 fly, led by Lombardi (2:05.91), followed by Manoli (2:08.40) and Hlaa Diab (2:08.70).
Mishler and Simioni added key points in the 50 free, finishing second (23.97) and third (24.10), respectively, before Trionfetti (52.24) and Lombardi (52.54) went 2-3 in the 100 free. Bernier earned another event win for the Bears in the 200 back (2:05.23), while Erokhina doubled up with a strong performance in the 200 breast (2:16.66).
On the diving boards, Addison Campbell (247.05) and Violet Noel (244.88) placed second and third on 1-meter, while Noel added a third-place finish on 3-meter (229.20).
UNC capped the meet with a close finish in the 200 free relay, where the quartet of Simioni, Trionfetti, Mishler, and Tromp finished just 0.15 seconds behind NM State's top relay in 1:35.13.

The Bears will travel to Laramie, Wyoming to compete against Wyoming and Colorado School of Mines on Saturday, November 1.
