Bears Best Two at USAFA Quad Meet

USAFA, Colo. - Northern Colorado swimming and diving delivered a competitive showing at the U.S. Air Force Academy on Saturday afternoon. The Bears wrapped up the dual meet with a 2-1 record, including dominant victories over UTRGV (245-53) and Colorado School of Mines (225-68), while coming up short against Air Force (191.5-108.5).Â
SWIMMING HIGHLIGHTS
Sophomore Kyra Rabess led the Bears in the pool with wins in the distance freestyle events. She captured first place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:46.62 and followed with another victory in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:15.58.
In the 200-yard butterfly, sophomore Ellyson Lombardi delivered a standout performance, winning with a time of 2:05.35. Graduate student Payten Irwin secured second in the same event at 2:08.81. Freshman Ariane Bernier was a force in the backstroke events, placing third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.80) and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (59.78).
The Bears' relays also excelled, with the quartet of sophomore Martina Yuki Trionfetti, junior Maria Erokhina, Lombardi, and freshman Vitoria Simioni placing second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:46.25, narrowly missing the top spot.
Erokhina claimed the 100-yard breaststroke title with a time of 1:05.06 and added a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.99). Freshman Birgitta Ingolfsdottir also impressed in the breaststroke, finishing fifth in the 100-yard event (1:07.02).
DIVING HIGHLIGHTS
Senior Madison Berg led the way with a second-place finish on the 1-meter board, scoring an impressive 251.10 points. Berg's dives were clean and confident, demonstrating her veteran experience. Freshman Mireya Ruiz followed with a strong ninth-place performance, earning 203.05 points.
In the 3-meter competition, the Bears continued to shine. Berg finished fourth overall with a score of 243.75, while Ruiz secured sixth place with 220.85 points.Â

The Bears will host Colorado State for a dual meet on Friday, Jan. 24 with a start time of 4 p.m.
