Rabess Named WAC Freshman of the Year

ARLINGTON, Texas – Kyra Rabess collected the 2023-24 Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, league officials announced Thursday.
"Kyra had an incredible freshmen year because she worked for it," head coach Lisa Ebeling said. "She has been an amazing addition to our program and embodies our core values daily. Her competitive spirit is second to none and I'm excited to continue watching her grow."
The rookie from George Town, Cayman Islands, set the 1000-yard freestyle school record time of 9:58.33, with her split time in the 1,650-yard freestyle race at the Western Athletic Conference Championships. Rabess recorded a second-place finish in the race, with a time of 16:36.52.
At the championships, she placed second in the 200-yard freestyle and placed fourth in the 500-yard freestyle. She touched the wall in a school record time of 4:49.79
On the first day of competition, Rabess secured a silver medal as a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay team.
In her first competition during the exhibition season, Rabess won the Horsetooth 2.4-mile Open Water Women's Collegiate Swim with a time of 40 minutes and 42 seconds, defeating all competitors except for the first 13 men to cross the line.
