GREELEY, Colo. – University of Northern Colorado head football coach Ed Lamb is pleased to announce veteran Mike Rigell has joined the program as the wide receivers coach.
"Excited to welcome Coach Rigell to the University of Northern Colorado," Lamb said. "Mike is a former head coach, and he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the program. I look forward to seeing our wide receivers grow on and off the field under his tutelage."
Rigell comes to UNC after spending three years as the head football coach at Simon Fraser University.
"Extremely excited and happy to be here working with the UNC football staff as the receiver's coach. It's a pleasure to be hired by Coach Lamb and to work with offensive coordinator Justin Walterscheid," Rigell said. "I couldn't be more excited about the opportunity to be a part of the UNC football program and Greeley community."
After a successful playing career, Rigell served as special team's coordinator and running backs/receivers coach at Snow College (2014-16) and the University of Puget Sound (2013-14). He held similar roles at New Mexico Highlands University in 2012 and at Idaho State University in 2011. Rigell also worked with the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs on a Bill Walsh Minority Fellowship.
Rigell started his football career as a standout player at NCAA Division I FBS program Brigham Young University, winning numerous awards, including Honorable Mention All-Mountain West Conference Honors and Honorable Mention Media All-Mountain West Conference Honors. Rigell continued his playing career in the Arena Football League, competing for the Utah Warriors, Tri-Cities Fever, and Rapid City Aces from 2003-2006.
Rigell holds a bachelor's in communications and broadcast journalism and a master's in special education and mental health therapy.
