Historic Season Ends in NIVC Semis

TUSCON, Ariz. – Northern Colorado's (28-8) historical season ended with a hard fought (20-25, 27-25, 25-18, 18-25) loss at Arizona (23-9) in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship semifinals at the McKale Center Thursday.
Gabi Placide led the Bears with 16 kills, while Alayna Tessena chimed in with 14. Annette Baker recorded a double-double in the final collegiate match of her great career with 11 kills and 10 digs.
Syd Cole, wearing the UNC jersey for the last time in her illustrious career recorded a double-double, dishing out 46 assists to five different attackers, with 14 digs, four blocks, three kills and three service aces.
Donning the libero jersey for the last time as a collegiate, Sam Steele paced UNC with 17 digs, five assists and two aces.
The teams went toe-to-toe for nearly two hours, with the Bears registering 56 kills on 148 swings, while Arizona netted 58 on 151, with both sides committing 21 errors. Each side posted nine blocks, while UNC held a 64-60 advantage in digs.
Over the four games, the teams combined for 23 ties and nine lead changes, with the Bears leading wire-to-wire in the third set.
UNC completed the season with the most wins in the NCAA Division I program history, with 28, two more than the previous mark. The .778 winning percentage ranks second during the era, with the only record set during the COVID shortened 2020 campaign, played in spring 2021. This season's win total rank 14th in program history, while the winning percentage is the 13th highest.
