HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: After trading points through the early portion of the game, Northwestern pulled away with a 13-7 run to build its largest lead of the game at 17-11. LePore dropped in an ace, forcing a Wildcats timeout at 19-16. Following the stoppage, LePore inched the Bears closer with another service ace. Harris pulled Northern Colorado to within two at 21-19 before the Wildcats closed with four straight points to grab the early advantage.
Set 2: Knotted at 11-11, Northwestern ran off five-straight points. Reines completed a stretch of alternating points from the two sides, closing UNC's deficit to four at 20-16. She staved off one match point with a successful attack, but the Wildcats moved in front 2-0 at the break on a service error.
Set 3: Reines tallied one of her four kills in the game to put the Bears up 8-7, their final advantage of the day. An 8-3 run pushed Northwestern ahead 15-11 at the media timeout. UNC fought off two match points before the Wildcats closed out the contest.
FROM THE COACH:
"We had glimpses of what we want to see moving forward but we didn't put it all together," UNC Head Coach Lyndsey Oates said. "Cece had a good night scoring for us and Brynn is starting to figure things out and attacked the block better. We still must get better at decision making. Our serve and reception gave us trouble tonight and we are giving up too many points in that aspect of the match. We will get better from this weekend and move forward going into our home stretch."
