Reines Sets Career High in Bears Loss

PORTLAND, Ore. – University of Northern Colorado dropped a tough four-set match to Portland State, 17-25, 18-25, 25-22, 17-22, at Viking Pavilion Saturday.
Brynn Reines registered a career-high 14 kills and Syd Cole inked a double-double, with 34 assists and 12 digs. Makenzie Harris tallied a game-high 17 kills, while Bella LePore led the Bears with 13 digs.
Cece Huhn recorded three blocks, while four other Bears netted one each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: Portland State raced out to an early lead, building its largest advantage of the game at 19-12. UNC trimmed the margin to six at 23-17 before a pair of errors by the Bears closed the set.
Set 2: Midway through the game, the Vikings utilized a 9-4 run to turn a 9-9 draw into a five-point margin.
UNC closed to within three at 21-18 before Portland State netted four-straight points, taking a 2-0 advantage into intermission.
Set 3: UNC tallied eight of the first nine points, before holding off a rally by the Vikings to force a fourth set. Portland State utilized a 5-0 stretch, cutting a 23-16 margin to two. A Vikings service error and an ace by UNC sealed the game for the Bears.
Set 4: Leading 11-10, Portland State doubled up the Bears to secure the set and the match.
FROM THE HEAD COACH
They were able to attack our weaknesses and executed better," Lyndsey Oates said. "We were not at our best but I am positive that those weaknesses can become our strengths by the end of the season. We will get back in the gym, prepare for next week's game and focus on the big picture."
