GREELEY, Colo. – The University of Northern Colorado women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 result against Iowa State at Jackson Field Sunday.
"I'm very pleased with the effort," Northern Colorado's Head Coach Tim Barrera said. "We kept a Power Five level through the first half and that helped our players confidence and they played hard through the final whistle."
A successful penalty kick from the Cyclones (2-0-0) in the 50th minute proved to be the difference in the contest.
Senior goalkeeper Kaya Lindberg kept the Bears (0-2-0) in the contest in the opening 45 minutes, sending both sides to the locker room scoreless. She turned away all six shots on net – including four from point-blank range.
"Kaya made some really good saves to keep us in the game early on," Barrera said.
In the second half, the Bears offense found life, lobbing seven attempts at the keeper but failed to find the back of the net.
"Similar to the Colorado State game, we grew into the game," Barrera said. "We used our roster and it helped, especially in the second half."
GOAL SUMMARY
ISU - 50th minute: Emma Mira (1), scored on a penalty kick.
