Jackson and 200 Free Relay Excel During Day 2 of WAC Championships

PHARR, Texas – The UNC 200 free relay team of Saana Liikonen, Payten Irwin, Sarah Jackson and Ali Jackson took second place in the second day of competition at the 2023 Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday.
Ali Jackson turned in the second fastest leg of the event, swimming the final split with a time of 22.51. She also found the podium for a second time on the day, finishing third in the 50 free with a time of 23.10. Her time in the 50 free was also her personal record, besting her previous mark by one one-thousandth of a second.
Anna Austin crushed her personal best in the 500 free, finishing 9th with a time of 4:54.64, besting her previous record by over three seconds. The time also ranks third fastest in program history.
Additionally in the 50 free, Payten Irwin finished seventh with a time of 23.59, just 0.19 off her personal best. Bryanna Ungs broke her personal best in the event with a time of 23.67 for an 11th-place finish.
In the 200 IM, Katelyn Bergin was the leading UNC Bear, finishing seventh with a time of 2:04.14.
With the strong races, UNC jumps up to fourth in the team rankings.

Competition resumes for the third day on Friday, in Pharr, Texas. On the docket are the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 400 medley relay and platform diving.
