Men’s Golf Preview: Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational

GREELEY, Colo. – The University of Northern Colorado men's golf team returns to the course Monday and Tuesday at Mark Simpson Invite – hosted by Colorado – at Colorado National Golf Club (par 72/7,567 yards) in Erie, Colorado.
Competing for the Bears: Gage Messingham, Pietro Boeris, Peter Grossenbacher, TJ Shehee and Antti Vahvaselka, while Blake Danni will compete as an individual.
Along with Northern Colorado, the 17-team field includes Air Force, Boise State, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Grand
Canyon, Mercer, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Rice, San Francisco, UT-Arlington, Utah Valley, UTEP, Valparaiso, Washington State and Wyoming. The field includes nearly 100 competitors, with 17 schools in all and individual participants. As of Sept. 21, no 2023-24 in-season rankings have been published; Colorado State and Rice received votes in the GCAA's Bushnell/Golfweek preseason coaches' poll.
The team competition includes 36 holes of continuous play (foursomes) on Monday with a shotgun format start in carts at 8:15 a.m. and 18 holes Tuesday, with a staggered shotgun start at 7:55 a.m. Tee times for the top four teams off No. 1 from 7:55 to 8:35 a.m. Each five-member team will count the top four scores each day.

ABOUT COLORADO NATIONAL GOLF CLUB: The tournament will take place at Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, which is located about 12 miles east of CU's Boulder campus. A seven-time winner of the "Best Golf Course on the Front Range," the championship layout boasts a 7,567-yard, par-72 configuration that opened in 2003 originally as Vista Ridge Golf Club. The course is spaced over 232 acres of land with strategically placed bunkers and lakes, and only two holes that run alongside each other.
