GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado Swim and Dive's season isn't done just yet. After arguably its most impressive season in program history, a number of Bears will compete at the National Invitational Championships this week.
Coming off a WAC Championship run that included seven schools records, four gold medals, three silver and six bronze, the Blue and Gold head to Elkhart, Indiana to show the rest of the nation what UNC Swim ad Dive is all about.
Senior Madelyn Moore is coming off her second consecutive WAC Swimmer of the Year award. The Sandys, Bermuda native began her Championships by claiming the WAC meet record in the 50 free with a 22.17. The time earned Moore first alternate for the NCAA Championships.
Moore wasn't done in the sprints, claiming gold in the 100 free at 49.10 and the 100 back, touching the wall at 53.14. Avenging a relay earlier in the meet, Northern Colorado shattered the 400 medley program record with a 3:38.40.
Heading into the National Invitational Championships next week, Moore owns school records in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 100 back and was part of record-breaking efforts in the 200 medley, 400 medley, 200 free and 400 free relays.
Along with Moore, fellow record holders Bryanna Ungs (100 breast), Payten Irwin (200 fly) and Katelyn Bergin (100 fly) will all be looking to rewrite UNC history. Don't sleep on the Northern Colorado relays either as well as the whole family of Bears that will be marking the trip to Indiana.
The NIC begins on Thursday, March 10 and will wrap up on Saturday, March 12.
