Wrestling Set for NCAA Championships Starting Thursday

DETROIT, Mich. – It's time for Mat Madness! The wrestling world descends upon Detroit for the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships March 17-20 at Little Ceasars Arena. Northern Colorado wrestling brings three qualifiers to the championships this season in Jace Koelzer, Andrew Alirez and Alan Clothier.
Alirez comes in with the highest seed for the Bears as No. 5 in the 141 lbs bracket. He became the program's first Big 12 champion two weeks ago when he defeated Allan Hart of Missouri 6-4. The Greeley native is 22-3 on the year and will face Collin Gerardi of Virginia Tech in the first round.
Koelzer earned his first trip to the NCAA Championship by taking sixth place at the Big 12 Championships. The redshirt freshman drew the No. 30 seed for the bracket. He will face Pat Glory of Princeton in the opening round.
Finally, Alan Clothier became a four-time NCAA qualifier by earning an at-large bid for 197 lbs. Clothier is the No. 27 seed and will face No. 6 seed Jacob Warner of Iowa.
All of the NCAA Wrestling Championship action can be seen on the ESPN networks. The day sessions will air on ESPNU and night sessions on ESPN. The day sessions start each day at 10 am MT and night at 5 pm MT. MATCAST returns in 2022 with each mat being aired the full time on ESPN3.
