HOUSTON, Texas – Northern Colorado Swim and Dive just keep climbing.
Four school records fell on Friday evening as the Bears rocketed up to third in the team standings with 335 points.
Paula Nunez Blazquez kicked off Friday evening in the 400 IM. The Spain native shaved two seconds off her time in the prelims, earning ninth place at 4:25.02.
Zoe Gawronska and Natalie Kayfes also scored in the event, grabbing a place in the consolation finals. Gawronska swam a 4:29.21, while Kayfes came in at 4:29.84.
Northern Colorado brought the heat in the 100 fly, though. Both Katelyn Bergin and Payten Irwin had broken the school record in the prelims and were just .01 seconds apart heading into the finals.
Bergin unleashed a 53.53 for a silver medal, shattering the school record. Irwin wasn't far behind, clocking a 53.55 for a bronze medal. Both hit NCAA B cuts.
Both Bryanna Ungs and Chelaine van der Westhuizen made the championship finals in the 100 breast. Ungs left it all in the pool, breaking the second school record of the night with a 1:01.60 and grabbing the silver medal and an NCAA B cut. Van der Westhuizen came in fifth with a personal best of 1:02.71.
Madelyn Moore returned to the pool in the 100 back. Eyeing back-to-back gold medals in the event, Moore blew everyone out of the water with UNC's third school record of the night, hitting the wall at 53.14 for another gold medal and an NCAA B cut.
No one could've been prepared for the fireworks the Bears brought in the 400 medley relay, though.
Katelyn Bergin, Bryanna Ungs, Payten Irwin and Madelyn Moore etched their names in Northern Colorado history, smashing the program record by over three seconds, relishing the gold medal with a 3:38.40.
