Bears defeat Falcons on Criteria

UNC wrestling picked up a 19-18 win over Air Force
USAFA – UNC wrestling closed out the dual season with a win over fellow Colorado school edging out Air Force 19-18 on the first tiebreaker. The Bears won six bouts compared to four by Air Force.
The Bears jumped out to a 13-0 lead winning the first four bouts of the day.
Jace Koelzer extended his dual win streak to five straight with a 6-3 win by decision that included 1:35 of ride time.
Dyson Kunz picked up his second dual win of the season by taking down No. 33 Sidney Flores. Kunz trailed 5-4 with 1:30 left in the third period but got the key reversal to earn the win, gaining an extra point late due to Flores stalling,
No. 5 Andrew Alirez picked up a very important extra point for UNC with his 10-2 major decision over Cody Phippen. Alirez's 2:08 of ride time proved to be big later on.
Chris Sandoval put UNC up 13-0 with his 5-2 decision over Dylan Martinez. The Greeley native was the third Bear on the day to earn a point for ride time, his of 1:27 in the bout.
Xavier Vasquez picked up a huge win for Northern Colorado in the 184 lbs bout. It went to sudden victory over Noah Blake. Tied at one after the three periods Vasquez finished the bout with a takedown at 30 seconds in the sudden victory period. The win helped UNC earn the first tiebreaker.
Graduate student Alan Clothier picked up the win and dual for UNC with a 9-6 decision over Kayne Hutchison. It was the team's sixth bout win of the year and meant Air Force had to win the heavyweight bout with a fall.
What's Ahead
UNC has two weeks to prepare for Tulsa and the Big 12 Championships on March 5 & 6.
