GREELEY, Colo.—In a game that featured more than 20 lead changes or ties, Air Force edged Northern Colorado, 67-65, in non-conference men's basketball action on Tuesday night.
Overcoming an eight-point deficit in the first half, Northern Colorado (5-7) evened the contest (31-31) at the break with the aid of 3-pointers by Riley Abercrombie and Matt Johnson II.
Minutes into the second half, the Bears found themselves in a 10-point hole before Daylen Kountz spurred an 11-2 run to pull within a single point.
A pair of Dalton Knecht free throws knotted the game at 55-55 and after a defensive stop, Kountz converted both attempts from the stripe to give the Bears its first lead since late in the first half.
With 2:15 to play another Abercrombie shot from beyond the arc gave UNC a 3-point advantage at 63-60. Air Force (9-4), however, held the Bears without a field goal the rest of the way to overtake the home side.
Kountz led all players with 22 points while Knecht closed out the game with 17 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Bears will return to action on Dec. 29 when they open Big Sky Conference play at Weber State. UNC's next home date will feature Montana State for a Jan. 5 bout against the Bobcats.
