Jackson takes third in opening day of Trailblazer Invite

ST. GEORGE, Utah—Cutting her career best twice on the day, Northern Colorado's Ali Jackson highlighted the first day of action at the Utah Tech Trailblazer Invitational on Thursday.

Competing in the 50-yard freestyle, Jackson posted a 23.21 for the meet's No. 2 time preliminary time. Returning to the pool in the evening session, Jackson topped her mark once again with a 23.11 for third place overall. The new time moved Jackson to No. 3 on UNC's all-time performance list.

Entering the school's all-time top 10, Anna Austin placed cut more than 10 seconds off her previous season best to place ninth overall in the 500 free with a 4:57.74.

Already the No. 2 performer in school history in the event, Katelyn Bergin nearly matched her career best in the 200 IM with a 2:02.49. Placing fourth overall, Bergin touched in 2:02.49.

The Bears ended the day in fourth place with 122 points. UC San Diego leads UC Santa Barbara 256 to 225 for the top spot in the team standings.
