BOULDER, Colo.—Closing out the middle round of action with an even-par 70, Jack Castiglia led Northern Colorado in men's golf action at the 12th Annual Mark Simpson Invite on Tuesday.
Jack Castiglia (73-70-73—216) bookended his 70 with 3-overs for a final score of 6-over 216. The result was good for a tie for 43rd place overall.
Teammate Yuze Zhang (76-73-70—219) improved each round of play to finish with a 9-over 219 for 54 holes while Blake Danni (79-68-74—221) carded the lowest individual round by the team with a 2-under in the second round.
After completing the first round on Monday, the scheduled second tour was postponed until Tuesday morning due to lighting and rain in the region.
Northern Colorado (300-283-291—874) finished 15th overall in a field that featured two teams from the Pac 12 and four more from the Mountain West Conference. Wyoming (2-under 838) edged Colorado (1-under 839) by a single stroke for the team victory.
Fighting the conditions for much of the round, UNC's middle round of 3-over 283 was tied for the third lowest of the tournament.
Utah Valley's Brady McKinlay (69-68-66—203) and Rice's Raghav Chugh (67-68-69--204) battled for medalist honors with McKinlay using a 4-under 66 on Tuesday afternoon to earn the individual title by one stroke.
The Bears will next compete at the Bill Cullum Invitational on Oct. 10-11 before closing out their fall season with a three-day event hosted by the University of Denver at the TPC Colorado from Oct. 17-19.
