POCATELLO, Idaho- Northern Colorado Soccer concluded their 2022 campaign on Sunday as they dropped a hard-fought match against the Idaho State Bengals, 2-0.
The Bears came on strong both offensively and defensively, despite the cold Idaho wind, in the first half. They recorded a total of seven shots in the first, with their best chance at scoring coming from Britney Donais' aggressive offensive efforts.
UNC also managed to prevent all of ISU's scoring attempts. This included seven saves from freshman goalkeeper Maddie Smith that kept the teams tied with clean sheets after the first 45 minutes of competition.
The team continued to push hard in the second half, adding 11 more shots and two corners. Smith remained solid in goal as she faced the Bengals' season high in shots, adding seven additional saves in the half.
However, Idaho State was able to find the back of the net twice in the second half. Despite the Bears' unwavering efforts to stage a comeback, the match ended 2-0 in the competition's favor and closed out the season.
What They Said
"We had a tough one today. It just wasn't our day," said Head Coach Tim Barrera. "It was a little breezy and we were pushing through the wind and got caught. I want to say congrats to all the seniors who had a great four or five years, depending on what it was. They have left a long imprint on the program and a couple of championships. It was just a tough year all around for us."
