Extra Points Propel Bears over California Baptist

UNC wrestling defeated CBU 25-14 Friday night
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado wrestling picked up key extra points to defeat California Baptist Friday evening inside Bank of Colorado Arena 25-14. Jace Koelzer and Andrew Alirez earned extra points for the Bears with a fall and major decision, respectively.
A week after missing the dual, Koelzer beat the clock to earn his first pin of the season with just three seconds left in the bout. He was working on a major decision when he rolled Devin Garcia one more time to pin him. The helped UNC double up CBU at the time 18-9.
Alirez dominated Christian Nunez from the start of his dual. In the 15-6 major decision the No. 6 ranked 144 lbs wrestler in the nation recorded six takedowns over the seven minutes and had 2:54 of ride time.
Alan Clothier and Jacob Seely picked up early wins for the team after the dual started at 165 lbs. Clothier won by decision 8-3 over Arick Lopez, while Seely defeated Chris Island 2-1.
Chris Sandoval secured the dual win with his strong performance against Chaz Hallmark. The Greeley native won 7-3 with 2:57 of ride time.
