GREELEY, Colo. – It's rivalry night for Northern Colorado Swim and Dive on Friday. The Bears take the short trip over to Fort Collins to go head-to-head with the Rams at Moby Pool.
Head coach Lisa Ebeling and first-year assistant Brody Lewis have the team trending in the right direction ahead of this month's Western Athletic Conference Championships.
Colorado State is the last in-state rival the Bears have yet to face this season. UNC is 8-0 against Centennial State schools this season and a win on Friday would not only be the first dual victory against CSU in program history but would also make Northern Colorado the undisputed best team in the State of Colorado in 2020-21.
The junior duo of Anna Austin and Madelyn Moore have been a force to reckon with on the blocks. Both swimmers have rightfully earned WAC Swimmer of the Week honors. Moore for her dominant showing at the Air Force quad dual and Austin for her powerful performance against Denver.
The Bears have also been lifted by an impressive freshmen class. Katelyn Bergin has been a beast in the backstroke and butterfly while Saana Liikonen has been equally as impressive in the sprints. Mid-year arrival Chelaine Van De Westhuizen has also boasted bright performances in just two meets so far donning the Blue and Gold.
This season, Colorado State has lost to Wyoming, dropped two duals to Air Force and beat Denver. According to College Swimming's mid-major rankings, the Bears sit a No. 29, five spots ahead of the Rams at No. 34.
The first race is scheduled for 5 p.m. MT and you can catch it all on Colorado State's YouTube Channel.
