GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado Swim and Dive is back in action this weekend, matching up against fellow WAC member New Mexico State in Las Cruces.
Head coach Lisa Ebeling's crew outdueled seven schools, including in-state rival Air Force and BYU last weekend at the Intermountain Shootout.
Senior Madelyn Moore swam in seven races (3 individual, 4 relays), winning all seven. The Sandys, Bermuda native efforts secured her the WAC Swimmer of the Week. Not an unexpected start for Moore considering she ended last season as the WAC Swimmer of the Year.
UNC newcomers Bryanna Ungs, Elizabeth Mayer, Giulia Pavanello, Angeline Settle and Madison Berg all impressed in their Blue and Gold debuts and will look to continue the same over the weekend.
It wasn't just the Western Athletic Conference that noticed UNC's impressive start to the season. Northern Colorado enters the weekend as the No. 3 ranked mid-major program according to College Swimming. While not every program has officially competed yet, the Bears are no stranger to living inside the top-25, finishing at No. 17 last spring.
The Aggies got the best of UNC in last year's WAC Championships, two spots above the Bears. However, Northern Colorado has beaten NMSU each of the last two times the schools have gone head-to-head.
Ebeling and the Bears return home to Butler-Hancock Pool on October 23 at 10 a.m. MT for another WAC duel against Idaho. Admission is free.
