Swim and Dive completes perfect weekend at Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Early morning swims do not bother Northern Colorado.
The 9 a.m. start time had many fans reaching for an extra cup of coffee before day two at Air Force kicked off with the 400-yard medley relay. Head coach Lisa Ebeling's Bears didn't mind though, heading home with three more victories over Air Force (120-104), Colorado Mesa (133-91) and the Colorado School of Mines (171-41).
Relative to Friday's competition, UNC got off to a comparatively slow start. However, Madelyn Moore quickly turned the momentum around.
After wins in the 100 free and both relays yesterday, Moore quickly put her speed on display with a 23.00 in the 50 free on Saturday morning. In the final event of the meet (200 free relay), her opening split of 22.77 was just .27 off her school record and set the pace for the sixth win of the day for the Bears.
Few swimmers at the Natatorium had a more perfect weekend than junior Anna Austin. With wins in both long-distance swims on Friday, Austin's dynamic ability was on full display Saturday morning when she took home the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.76.
Of course, the Arvada, Colorado native wouldn't be denied her fourth win of the weekend in the 500 free when she swam 5:07.93.
Sophomore Paula Nunez Blazquez swam a personal best in the 200 IM yesterday and followed up with a winning performance in the 400 IM (4:34.99) and was right behind Austin in the 200 fly (2:07.98).
With the first day of competition under their belts, UNC's divers settled in on day two in Colorado Springs. Tori Sayers earned her first win of the season on the 1-meter with a score of 243.45, and finished third in the 3-meter, scoring 226.85.
Once again, the quartet of Madelyn Moore, Ali Jackson, Katelyn Bergin and Saana Liikonen came up clutch in the 200 free relay (1:33.72) to secure all three dual wins for the second consecutive day.
DECK TALK
Lisa Ebeling, Head Coach
"Today was a lot of fun. These are the kinds of meets you really coach for. We didn't know what to expect today, but we knew we had to come in fighting if we wanted to walk away with wins. The girls were on a mission, they swam and dove with heart and they supported one another with passion. We stepped up as a true team. I'm excited to see where this leads us into the end of the season."
WHAT'S AHEAD
Northern Colorado's next competition will be back at Butler Hancock Pool on January 23, for senior day against Denver. The meet is slated for 5 p.m. MT.
