Northern Colorado picked up a pair of wins over Utah Valley and California Baptist Friday
OREM, Utah – The 25th ranked Northern Colorado wrestling team swept a tri-dual against Utah Valley and California Baptist on Friday afternoon to improve to 3-0 on the year. The Bears dominated California Baptist 35-3 before taking down host Utah Valley 19-16.
UNC's second Big 12 win of the year came thanks in part to key wins by extra points. Northern Colorado and Utah Valley split the matches at five apiece, but the Bears' four wins by major decision to UVU's one was the difference in the team score.
Northern Colorado dominated CBU in the first dual of the day winning nine of the 10 matches.
Mosha Schwartz turned in one of the best days for the team with a pin at 3:26 against CBU and then started a streak of three straight major decisions for UNC against Utah Valley. His 10-0 win featured a pair of takedowns and a four-point near fall in the third period to get the team rolling.
Dalton Robertson was the only other Bear with a fall on the day. He pinned California Baptist's Zach Schrader in the first period at 2:28. He then went on to gut out a tough 3-0 loss to Utah Valley after twisting his knee in the first period to conserve the Northern Colorado win.
What's Ahead
It's Big 12 duals from here on out for Northern Colorado. The Bears head to Colorado Springs next Sunday for a tri-dual against South Dakota State and Air Force. Northern Colorado's first dual of the day starts at noon.
